The books they read focus on just a few narrow aspects of trading. Or merely trumpet the writer's point of view. Or, worse still, suggest strategies that are impractical and almost impossible for ordinary people to implement.
They hear so-called 'stock market gurus' promising to sell them the secret to making fast easy money on the trading floor.
In the internet chat rooms they meet people with free tips and inside advice. But the people doing the chatting are themselves losing money on their trades!
After they get burned a few times they start looking for safe trading strategies, only to discover there are no safe strategies. And now they're back where they started ...
